Lord Verulam, the Seventh Earl of Verulam, inherited Gorhambury estate in 1973. He is married to Lady Verulam (Dione) they have four grown up children. He had a 26 year city career and is presently a Senior Adviser to Lord North Street Ltd, the leading private investment office.
He takes an interest in forestry and all aspects of the countryside, along with his running of the Gorhambury estate. His other pursuits are playing tennis, golf and riding and skiing.
Lord Verulam and his wife share a number of other interests which include classical music, opera and theatre.
Lady Verulam
Lady Verulam, the Countess of Verulam, is currently The Lord Lieutenant of Hertfordshire, appointed by HM The Queen upon the retirement of Simon Bowes Lyon KCVO in June 2007. She was High Sheriff of Hertfordshire in 2002/3.
As an artist her speciality is stencilling she has undertaken commissions for Hambleton Hall, Cliveden, several churches and for private clients and decorators. She has written and illustrated the Gorhambury Gardens guide and helps to run the house and gardens.
Throughout the last ten years Lady Verulam has regularly exhibited her paintings at exhibitions in London and elsewhere, the latest exhibition was held in February. 2010 at Sladmore Gallery, Bruton Place London.
Lady Verulam has many Patronages and Presidencies, patron for The Fraternity of Friends of St Albans Abbey. St John's Guild – Supporting the Blind. St Albans and Hertsmere Domestic Violence Forum. She is also an active supporter of Amber, which works to help young unemployed people. Travelling riding and skiing are activities she enjoys, also visiting the theatre and opera
